Second Step Program
The first grade class has begun the Second Step Program from the Committee for Children. This program has three components. Empathy, Problem Solving, and Anger Management. We are working on the Empathy component at this time. The children are taught how to identify the feelings of others. We have lessons on how feelings may change and how two people may feel differently about the same situation. Our empathy lessons are finished by learning what an I Message is and how to use I Messages. An I Message has three parts: 1) I feel 2) when you_ 3) and I want you ___.
Manners
The prep-kindergarten and kindergarten students are learning the importance of using good manners. The children learn that manners matter both at home and at school.

When I am not at school, I enjoy sending time with my husband. We like to travel, go to movies, and spend time with our children. We have three daughters and six grandchildren, all who live in the Des Moines/Ames area. I also like to swim laps at the YMCA and/or Algona Aquatic Center, read, and quilt.
